St Joseph's Youth 88 Football Club
20 Years of Grassroots Community Football
St Joseph's Youth '88 Football Club was founded in 1971 and is run on a voluntary basis by parents and friends who are interested in providing community based quality youth football facilities to players in the Harrow and surrounding areas. The club is managed through an Executive committee which is elected each year at the club's AGM meeting.
On 11th September 2003 the club gained the official Football Association Charter mark, which was then followed up by being recognized by the Inland Revenue as a Community Amateur Sports Club. In March this year we renewed our Chartermark for a further 3 yrs. We are also affiliated to the Middlesex County Football Associationrelating to children’s’ development, training and welfare. At present, we are now gathering the required information, from our Club Staff, to ensure all staff are approved by the Criminal Records Bureau and have attended Child Protection Courses,
The club currently runs teams ranging from Under 7's to Under 18's teams who participate in league and cup competitions managed by the Harrow Youth Football League, which is one of the biggest leagues in the country. We are presently developing 3 new under 6’s teams who will enter the League next season. The club also participates in the Middlesex County Cup each year and organizes various social activities to help fund additional income to assist with the cost of providing football, for over 400 youngsters.
Each year we hold a Presentation Day, whereby all our members are thanked for their efforts and receive a memento (this year it was held at Broadfields Country Club Harrow) and also a Football Weekend Festival, which attracts over 190 teams (from all over London and Middlesex), with over 3,500 people attending. Each year we nominate a local charity or group which we donate 5—10% of our profit from our Festival Weekend. Last years Benefactor was St Josephs RC School Building Fund.
Though we are a non profit organization, through the income eceived from fees, fund raising events and sponsors we have attracted, over the last 6 years, we are able to subsidise those teams who use hired training facilities and also a range of club items which includes items such as kit bags and rain jackets. We have a Club Constitution, an equal opportunities policy and encourage our membership to play the game of football in a true and honest manner. We also have a monthly Newsletter, which goes out to all our members, as well as an award winning Website to ensure members are kept informed of activities, within the Club.
